Tournament Information
Welcome to ODOT's Basketball tournament for 2014. We were looking to have 12 teams in the tournament this year, but were able to ultimately accommodate 13!

This is the 23rd annual 'Tin-Can' Rally. It is called that because we are raising funds for the Governor's Food Drive to help feed the hungry in Oregon. All proceeds go towards the Oregon Food Bank. In the past the money was put into a 'pool', in which teams select which food bank (county) their percentage goes towards. For example, the top 4 teams get to choose where the majority of the tournament 'pooled' proceeds go (e.g. food bank chosen from team documents). Typically 85% of the proceeds are split between the top 6 teams. An example of this breakdown is 1st place = 30%, 2nd place = 20%, 3rd place = 15%, and 4th place = 10%, 5th and 6th place 5%. The remaining 15% is divided equally amongst the other teams.

If your team wants to play this year, please see Tournament Documents listed below. You will need to fill-out your forms and submit them, along with your payment to guarantee your team a spot in the tournament. PAYMENT OF YOUR TEAM FEE WILL GUARENTEE YOUR SPOT. If you KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO SUBMIT A TEAM, please email Jon Lazarus so he can get you on the list. We will work with you (and your team) for a payment plan and try to gather all the fees beforehand. In the past, there have been two items that have been the biggest issues:

1) PAYMENT - the most difficult thing for tournament organizers has been to collect team fees timely and together. Many players show up on the day and try to pay for their portion on their team. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE CAPTAIN OF THE TEAM WILL ORGANIZE AND PRESENT ONE PAYMENT FOR ENTIRE TEAM FEE TO PAMELA AT CHECK IN BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT STARTS. Jon or Pamela can work with you to meet you ahead of time, should you want to submit and pay early. Pamela has volunteered to have a TEAM INFORMATION desk at the tournament prior to games starting on Friday night to help collect fees/paperwork, answer questions, sign up players for free throw contest, etc.

2) VOLUNTEERS FOR SCOREKEEPING/CLOCK - Many teams show up not knowing they are REQUIRED to have one person help keep score or keep time. This year we are going to add an option for teams to pay for us to find a volunteer for them, should they not have someone volunteer to help with the score table. This person can not be a player. Providing a volunteer to scorekeep is in the rules and is required for EACH TEAM, so we have two dedicated people for each game. Bill Dye will offer a training on the clocks and scoreboards on Friday night, if you want to send someone for training. We have been lucky that we have had spectators and volunteers help in the past, but we can't rely on this moving forward.
